Korean People

Koreans are a homogeneous cultural group with their own culture, language and customs. Korean people are characterized by their kindness, warmth, and humanity. They are also known as hard workers in the world.

Korean Food

One of the Korean cultural assets is the world's oldest movable metal type which predate that of Gutenberg. There are also the world's first ironclad battleship, the Korean alphabet, Ginseng, Kimchi, etc.

Kimchi is one of the most famous traditional food in Korea . There are more than 40 different types of them. Usually they are made from a mixture of radish, cabbage, hot sauce, seasonings, garlic, green onions, and so on. It is spicy.

Ginseng is famous for its healing properties. It has been popular in the western culture as well.

Korean Heritage Sites

There are 7 World Heritage Sites in Korea that have been designated by the UNESCO. They are Jongmyo Shrine, Changdeokgung Palace , the Gyeongju historic area, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, the Dolmen sites, the Tripotaka Koreana woodblocks, and Bulguksa Temple .

Elders

Noted that elders are given high level in Korea and must be treated respectfully. If you are seated on a bus and an elder person gets on with no available seating, as a courtesy, you will give your seat for them. They will greatly appreciate this and you will be rewarded with a big warm smile of gratitude.

Friendship

Relationships in Korea are not as open as in North America . When in public, it is not suitable to have physical connection with each other. Holding hands whild your walking is fine but kissing is not appropriated, especially if there are elders nearby watching.

You might find men holding hands in public and with their arms around each other. It is a gesture between friends, nothing more. Many women holding hands while they are walking. It just shows that they are good friends like sisters.

Drinking Water

In Korea ¡V it is not suitable to drink tap water. But it is safe to brush your teeth, shower, bath and also cooking.

Bottled water for drinking (spring or mineral water) is cheap, and can be purchased at all convenience stores, grocery stores, etc.
