Climates in Korea

There are four distinct seasons in South Korea .

Spring is also a pleasant season in South Korea and several cities, including Masan , near Pusan , hold annual Cherry Blossom Festivals. The springtime in South Korea is mild and gets warm gradually around March to April.

Summer is usually hot and humid; it lasts from July to September. Throughout July and the beginning of August it is known as the rainy (monsoon) season. The hottest period in August can go up to 19 degree C (66 F) to 27 degree C (81F) . Pusan , the southern most major city in Korea , tends to be five degrees warmer C than Seoul . Cheju Island , off the South Coast of Korea, is the warmest and also the wettest area in South Korea .

Fall lasts from September to November and it is generally considered to be the most enjoyable season in Korea - the trees start changing colors to make it the most gorgeous season and most popular time for tourists. Temperatures in the fall are warm during the day and cool at night.

Winter is cold and it snows in the northern and eastern parts of South Korea . If you like skiing, these are the best places you want to go. There is little snow in the southern parts of Korea and snow that does fall seldom stays around for long, excluding in the mountains. Winter usually lasts from December to March. In January, the coldest month, the temperatures range from -5 degree C ( 23 F) to 5 degree C ( 41 F) . A warm sweater and light winter jacket should be enough to keep warm in the wintertime.
