Education in Japan

There are 3 terms of the school year in Japan ; April to July, September to December, and January to March. The children in Japan start their nursery schools when they are age 3 or 4. They start their primary school at 6. The primary school consists 6 years, and then 3 years of junior high. The total 9 years of education are mandatory. Schools are very strict and formal. The students have to wear uniform to schools and they are taught to respect to their teachers who are addressed [sensei]. The reputation of the universities determines the students' future career. The students have to pass the entrance exams in order to study in a good university. The oldest and the most famous universes is University of Tokyo . [juku] is like after school for junior high and high school students. They help students with their homework and help them to prepare their exams.
